Alesis Drums | Can I use a double kick pedal with my set?

Many users end up wanting to use a double kick pedal with their kit. In this article, we'll briefly talk about what's possible with our kits and what you can try to achieve this drumming technique.

Beater-less Kick Pedals

With these types of kicks, the signal sent is a simple on/off message; and we do not suggest attaching another pedal to the kit to achieve a double kick setup, as there isn't any kind of control built into the module to allow a double kick setup and the adjustments to be made for it.

Beater and Pad style kicks

This setup used on our Nitro kits and above, is able to accommodate double kick inputs thanks to the threshold setting inside the trigger menus. Depending on the module you may need to adjust down the Retrigger Cancel for the technique.

We would recommend using a double kick pedal with an adjustable spacing between the beaters to accomplish this, and as always we suggest not using a felt beater to achieve this.

One other option available is to use a second kick tower within your kit's available tom slot, then remapping the sound to a kick drum. While not as popular since it will limit your use(you are not only losing the tom but the Tom Rim as well), it can be a useful way to get a second kick pedal into your kit without retrigger cancel needing to be adjusted.
